It was positive news for the Swift Current Broncos at their annual general meeting on Sept. 24.

The hockey club announced a profit of just over $155,000 for the year.

“We’re excited to turn a profit this year. Obviously we want to keep the momentum going this year,” said Kevin Simpson, Executive Vice President of Business Operations.

“We made lot of strides for the regular season. Obviously the playoffs are the big boost for the team financially, seeding some of these games with the 50/50 pot, we had $40,000 plus 50/50 games all the way through the playoffs, which was great. Four straight sellouts in the playoffs. We had some sellouts in March with the excitement of the team clinching the Central Division championship,” Simpson added.

The Broncos won the Central Division title last season with a 40-22-4-2 record in the regular season. They hosted four playoff games before being eliminated in the second round of the playoffs by the Moose Jaw Warriors.

“I feel it was a very positive meeting, one where we showed a profit this year and obviously we had some success on the ice winning a division title and have some playoff home gates as well. A positive meeting for sure,” said General Manager Chad Leslie.

Leslie said the team is headed in the right direction.

“Yeah, obviously we are looking to be a team that is consistent and be a playoff team year in and year out. Obviously we’ve had some changes here in the last couple weeks with some personal and some guys being moved and not willing to come back. It’s fluid. I think you’re plan always changes with what you have available to you. But I believe in our group. We have a hard working group and we’re just going to get better and better as our guys get a little more experience.”
