The first official SWAC sport playoff, golf, was postponed last week due to torrential rains. It is now being held on Monday, September 23. The Cypress Hills Golf Course will be the site, hosted by Maple Creek. There are over 50 golfers (gr 9-12) interested in taking part in the competition.
Top four girls and top four boys will advance to the SHSAA Provincial championship at Northern Meadows (Goodsoil).
SWAC is hosting its first ‘Junior Golf District’ exhibition tournament. It will be held after school on Wednesday, Sept. 25 in Eastend. We have 16 competitors (grades 4-8) who will golf nine holes.
The SCCHS Colts soccer team played their second match in the Moose Jaw Soccer League. They defeated Notre Dame in Moose Jaw by a score of 5-2. The Colts will travel to play Moose Jaw on Tuesday, Sept. 24.
In football action, the Swift Current 12-man football team played Moose Jaw Central at home on Friday, Sept 20. The offense had some struggles to get going and they lost 45-15. The Colts will host Weyburn on Saturday.
SWAC’s three 9-man teams all played on Friday, Sept 20, Gull Lake hosted Lumsden and lost 72-0. Maple Creek traveled to Shaunavon to play ‘under the lights.’ The hometown Shadows won 51-7.
Volleyball programs are underway at our junior and senior schools. Junior leagues are organized at the local/sectional level.
SWAC Senior volleyball leagues start this week. There are seven girls teams and five boys teams registered.
On Tuesday, Sept. 24 the girls league will play their first matches. Frontier will host Shaunavon, Maple Creek will host Consul, and Herbert will host Vanguard and Gull Lake.
Wednesday, Sept. 25 is the start of boys league. Frontier will host Consul and Ponteix and Herbert will host Cabri.
