A pair of Swift Current hockey players recently signed their first professional contracts.
Defenseman Wyatt Wilson signed a contract with the Orlando Solar Bears, the East Coast Hockey League affiliate of the National Hockey League’s Tampa Bay Lightning.
Wilson spent last season with the Vancouver Giants in the Western Hockey League, registering six points and 67 penalty minutes in 53 regular season games. Wilson previously played WHL games with the Victoria Royals and Winnipeg Ice.
His former teammate, Ryan McCleary also signed a professional contract with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League. McCleary was a lynchpin on the blue line for the Swift Current Broncos last season with 11 goals and 36 assists in 56 regular season games as the Broncos won the Central Division.
McCleary had played the previous three seasons with the Portland Winterhawks and was drafted in the seventh round by the Pittsburgh Penguins in 2021.
