Broncos win rookie game versus Pats

The Swift Current Broncos scored three unanswered goals over the final 5:03 to open the Western Hockey League preseason with an 8-5 win over the host Regina Pats.

Tyssen Koen made 39 saves on 44 saves to earn the win for the Broncos in a game that featured mostly rookie players.

Local Parker Rondeau led the Broncos with two goals and one assist. Ty Coupland and Aidan Sexsmith also scored twice. Jack Clark and Jayden Oleskiw also scored.

Mathis Paull scored twice for the Pats, followed by singles from Logan Peskett, Corban Almen, and Cohan Klassen.

The Broncos finished three-for-five on the power play. Regina scored twice on six man-advantages.

The Broncos will host the Prince Albert Raiders on Thursday.
