Southwest athletes medal at Legion Nationals

Seven Southwest athletes represented Saskatchewan at the Legion National Youth Track and Field Championships in Calgary on August 9-11.

Swift Current’s Kyler Duclos was the top Southwest performer with a pair of bronze medals in the U16 Boys Division. Duclos, 14, won bronze in the Long Jump with a 6.69-metre jump. He also won bronze in the Triple Jump at 13.16 metres. Duclos placed fifth in the 100 Metre Dash in 11.02 seconds.

Duclos also helped his 4×100 Metre Relay team place ninth in the U18 Division in 44.06 seconds. Duclos teamed up with Swift Current’s Rowan Reimer and Jackson Tuplin to place eighth in the 4×400 Metre U18 Relay in 3:28.11.

Kyle’s Olivia Dyrland also had a podium finish at Nationals. She was third in the U16 Discus Throw with a 29.90-metre throw. She fouled out of the Hammer Throw, but placed 11th in Shot Put at 10.29 metres.

Swift Current’s Emily McCleary took part in four U16 Girls events in Calgary. She was eighth in Triple Jump with a top jump of 10.50 metres. She also finished 22nd in Long Jump at 4.63 metres. McCleary also helped Saskatchewan place sixth in the 1,600 Metre Sprint Medley Relay in 4:26.06. Her 4×100 Metre Relay team was seventh in 50.64 seconds.

Tuplin competed in three U18 individual events in Calgary. His best finish was 11th in Pole Vault when he cleared the bar at 3.80 metres. Tuplin also placed 12th in the 400 Metre Hurdles in 58.69 seconds. He was 14th in the 110 Metre Hurdles in 15.67 seconds.

Reimer took part in a pair of U18 events. He finished in 15th spot in the 400 Metres in 50.90 seconds. Reimer also placed 16th in the 400 Metre Hurdles in 59.76 seconds.

Swift Current’s Elliot Jahnke competed in a pair of U16 events at Nationals. Jahnke finished seventh in the 200 Metre Hurdles in 26.83 seconds. He was also 12th in the 100 Metre Hurdles in 15.46 seconds.

Swift Current’s Colter Folk ran in a pair of U18 distance events. He finished eighth in the 2,000 Metre Steeplechase in 6:18.82. He also placed 20th in the 3,000 Metres in 9:06.38.
