Southwest golfers took part in the 2024 Saskatchewan Junior Championships at Deer Park Golf Course in Yorkton on July 3-5.
Kyle’s Chloe Wills won the Junior Women U17 Division for a second straight year. She finished 12 shots clear of the field at 18-over par across three rounds.
Wills, golfing out of the Sask Landing Golf Resort, led the division with an 82 in round one. She took control with a 75 on day two and carded a 77 on day three to close out the win.
Swift Current’s Niya Friesen placed second in the Junior Women U17 Division. Friesen was in contention with an 86 on day one and then followed up with an 84 in round two. She finished the tournament with an 86 on day three.
Swift Current’s Matty Schmiess placed third in the Junior Men U15 Division. Schmiess, golfing out of the Elmwood Golf Club, was second after round one with a 77 and then followed up with a 77 in round two. He carded an 82 in the final round. Kyle’s Jace Wills shot an 82 on day one and then followed with an 80 in round two. He finished the event with an 87 in the final round to place seventh.
Swift Current’s Ayden Ross placed fifth out of 28 golfers in the Junior Men U17 Division. Ross shot a 77 on day one, followed by a 76 on day two. He had his lowest round of the championship with a 75 on day three.
Swift Current’s Makstr McIntyre placed 12th in the Junior Men U19 Division as he improved in each round. McIntyre fired an 82 on day one and followed up with an 80 in round two. He wrapped up the weekend with a 78 in round three.
Ryder Woods was close behind in a 14th-place tie in the Junior Men U19 Division. Woods shot an 88 on day one and a 78 in round two. Woods replicated his 78 in round three as well.
Soren Richards, from the Chinook Golf Course, placed fifth in the Junior Junior Boys (9-7) Division with 12 stableford points.
