The Swift Current 57’s opened the Western Canadian Baseball League regular season with a 9-5 win over the host Weyburn Beavers on Saturday.
Veteran lefty Kenny Jinks got the win as he struck out six while allowing two runs over seven innings. Jaylen Gutierrez got the final six outs to clinch the win.
The 57’s knocked out 15 hits and scored runs in four different innings. Leadoff man Cullen Verville led the way with three singles, one stolen base, one run scored, and three runs batted in.
Catcher Luis Ayala finished with three singles, one stolen base, two runs scored, and one RBI. Casey Prychak singled, doubled, stole a base, scored twice, and had three RBIs. Designated hitter Marcus Graham doubled twice and scored three runs.
The 57’s will make their home debut on Sunday against the Beavers at 4:05 p.m. at Mitchell Field.
