Broncos sweep Hurricanes with double OT win

The Swift Current Broncos clinched a four-game sweep of the Lethbridge Hurricanes with a double overtime win on Wednesday.

Conor Geekie scored the series-winning goal 37 seconds into the second overtime period as the visiting Broncos overcame 3-0 and 4-1 deficits in a 5-4 victory.

The Hurricanes jumped out to a 3-0 lead with goals from Trae Wilke, Carter Dereniwsky, and Brayden Edwards over the opening 15:15. The Broncos answered in the final minute of the period with a Josh Filmon goal when an errant pass when off the side of his head and in.

The tables turned in the second period when the Broncos scored twice to make it a one-goal game, but not before Lethbridge opened the period with a breakaway goal from Hayden Pakkala. The Broncos cut into the lead with a power play goal from Clarke Caswell and then Luke Mistelbacher scored his fourth goal of the playoffs to make it a one-goal game.

The Broncos scored the only goal of the third period when Grayson Burzynski found his own rebound in the slot and fired home his first playoff goal to force overtime.

Reid Dyck made 37 saves on 41 shots to win his fourth game of the playoffs. Harrison Meneghin took the loss with 40 saves.

Bronco Bits: Caswell led the Broncos with six assists and eight points in the series. Mistelbacher and Geekie each had four goals in the series. Dyck finished with a 2.30 goals against average and a .927 save percentage in his first WHL playoff series. The Broncos were one-for-three on the man-advantage in game four and finished the series at 57.1 percent with eight goals on 14 attempts. Lethbridge finished at 11.1 percent on the power play with one goal on nine attempts.
