Broncos lose regular season finale in Calgary

The Swift Current Broncos lost their final game of the regular season 6-3 to the host Calgary Hitmen on Saturday.

Oliver Tulk scored twice for the Hitmen to reach the 40-goal plateau. Carter Yakemchuk, Connor Dale, Reese Hamilton, and Keets Fawcett also scored.

Conor Geekie, Clarke Caswell, and Dawson Gerwing replied for the Broncos. Call-up Sawyer Dingman had a pair of assists for his first WHL points.

Gull Lake’s Berney Weston made 31 saves for the Broncos in his WHL debut. Alex Garrett made 21 saves for the Hitmen.

The Broncos finished the season with a 40-22–4-2 record, while Calgary finished 28-31-8-1 to miss the playoffs.

The Broncos will face the Lethbridge Hurricanes in the opening round of the playoffs, beginning next Friday and Saturday in Swift Current.

Bronco Bits: Geekie finished the season with 99 points in 55 games. He totalled 23 goals and 27 assists in 29 games with the Broncos. Caswell led the Broncos with 51 assists and 76 points in his sophomore campaign. The Broncos finished 15-17-1-1 on the road this season. The Broncos had an 18-15-2-2 record when they traded for Conor Geekie on Jan. 4. Geekie played his first game on Jan. 9 and the team finished with a 20-7-2-0 record to claim the East Division.
