Broncos win second straight

The Swift Current Broncos won their second straight game on Friday with a 4-1 victory over the visiting Edmonton Oil Kings.

The Broncos scored the only goal of a sluggish first period when Conor Geekie fired home his 30th goal from the slot.

The Oil Kings tied the game with a power play goal off the stick of Gracyn Sawchyn midway through the second period. Connor Gabriel gave the Broncos a second lead when his shot from the high slot went in for his seventh goal of the season.

Geekie added to the lead early in the third period when a blocked shot fell to his stick and he one-timed it into an empty net for his second goal of the game. Rylan Gould added extra insurance with 6:17 remaining in the period as he finished off a three-way passing play for his 17th goal of the season.

Reid Dyck made 25 saves to improve to 13-6-2-0. Hudson Perry made 23 saves to fall to 0–6-2-0.

The Broncos remain fifth in the Eastern Conference with a 26-18-3-2 record. Edmonton fell to 16-31-2-1 with their sixth straight loss.

The Broncos will continue a five-game home stand on Saturday when they host the Saskatoon Blades, the top ranked team in the Canadian Hockey League.
