Two Southwest curlers were in action at the Sasktel Tankard in Saskatoon this week.
Swift Current’s Chris Haichert played second and Cabri’s Shaun Meachem was the third for the Steve Laycock rink, which also featured lead Brayden Grindheim.
They finished second in Pool A with a 3-2 record. They opened with a 10-6 win over Regina’s Joshua Bryden, followed by an 8-5 win over Saskatoon’s Michael Carss, and a 10-5 win over Saskatoon’s Dustin Kalthoff. The Laycock rink then lost 9-7 to Saskatoon’s Daymond Bernath, and 9-3 to Saskatoon’s Michael McEwen.
Laycock played in a tiebreaker on Saturday morning and defeated Kalthoff 10-4 in nine ends after scoring four points in the ninth.
The Laycock rink was eliminated by Saskatoon’s Rylan Kleiter in a 9-7 loss to open the playoffs.
