Broncos score six unanswered to defeat Wheat Kings

The Swift Current Broncos scored six unanswered goals to defeat the host Brandon Wheat Kings 7-3 for their fourth straight win on Friday.

Conor Geekie led the way with four points during his second game since being acquired from the Wenatchee Wild. The Broncos trailed 3-1 in the second period before Connor Hvidston scored twice to get the comeback underway. Zach Turner scored late in the second period against his former team to give the Broncos their first lead.

Ty Coupland, Geekie, and Luke Mistelbacher all scored in the third period. Brady Birnie had scored in the opening period to tie the game 1-1 during a three-point outing.

Roger McQueen, Brett Hyland, and Hayden Wheddon scored for Brandon.

Reid Dyck made 20 saves in his first game back from injury. He improved to 8-4-0-0 in his first game since Nov. 14.

Carson Bjarnason made 23 saves on 27 shots over 40 minutes in the loss. Ethan Eskit allowed three goals on 13 shots over the final period for Brandon, who fell to 20-15-4-1.

The Broncos remain fourth in the Eastern Conference with a 22-15-2-2 record.

The Broncos will visit the Medicine Hat Tigers on Tuesday.

Bronco Bits: the Broncos have scored 28 goals during their four-game winning streak. Trade deadline acquisition Tyson Galloway made his Broncos debut with one shot on goal and a plus-two rating.
