Broncos continue dealing on deadline day

The Swift Current Broncos made a pair of deals on Wednesday ahead of the Western Hockey League trade deadline.

The Broncos acquired Calgary Hitmen captain Tyson Galloway in exchange for a second round draft pick in 2025 and a third round pick in 2025.

The 6’4’’ overage defenseman has three goals and 12 assists in 33 games this season. The Kamloops product is a veteran of 216 regular season games and five playoff contests over parts of six WHL seasons.

“Tyson moves well for a big body, defends hard, and is great on the penalty kill,” said Broncos General Manager Chad Leslie. “He is a character kid that will provide us with some leadership and experience.”

To free up an overage spot the Broncos sent forward Tyson Laventure to the Victoria Royals for a fifth round pick in 2026. The 6’3’’ forward had 15 goals and 21 assists this season after being acquired from the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

The Broncos also announced that they had reassigned forward Van Eger and goaltender Matthew Kieper to their respective Junior A teams.

Kieper was returned to the Canmore Eagles. Kieper was acquired to fill in for the injured Reid Dyck. He finished 5-2-1-1 with the Broncos with a 3.42 goals against average and a .897 save percentage.

Eger was sent to the Notre Dame Hounds. Eger had three goals and three assists in 31 games this season. The Willow Bunch product was drafted in the fourth round in 2020 and since has appeared in 70 games for the Broncos over parts of three seasons.
