Broncos return with overtime win

The Swift Current Broncos returned from the holiday break with a 7-6 overtime win on Wednesday. The Broncos held three leads and trailed on three occasions before Rylan Gould continued his breakout season with the overtime winner, his 10th goal of the season.

Brady Birnie scored twice, while Connor Hvidston added a goal and two assists. Luke Mistelbacher, Maddix McCagherty, and Josh Filmon also scored for the Broncos.

Miguel Marques and Will Sharpe both scored twice for the Hurricanes, who also got singles from Logan McCutcheon, and Brayden Edwards.

Joey Rocha made 21 saves for the Broncos. Koen Cleaver took the loss with 26 saves in front of 3,767 fans at the Enmax Centre.

The Broncos scored on their only power play, while the Hurricanes connected on both of their man-advantages.

The Broncos moved into sixth in the Eastern Conference with a 17-14-1-2 record, only two points back of third place. Lethbridge fell to 15-15-3-0 with their fifth straight loss.

The Broncos will visit the Medicine Hat Tigers on Friday before returning home on Saturday to host the Red Deer Rebels.

Bronco Bits: the Broncos improved to 7-11-0-1 on the road this season. The Broncos announced earlier in the day the hiring of former captain Zack Smith as an assistant coach. The Maple Creek product skated in 707 NHL games with the Ottawa Senators and Chicago Blackhawks.
