The Swift Current Home Hardware Legionnaires moved into top spot in the Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League with a weekend sweep of the visiting Yorkton Maulers.
Saturday, the Legionnaires edged the Maulers 2-1. Parker Rondeau and Porter Nickason scored with assists from Jace Egland, Sam Kirwan, Griffin Darby, and Connor Rieger. Berney Weston earned the win with 26 saves.
Tanner Wiens scored for the Maulers, while Wyatt Bouvier made 32 saves in a losing cause.
Sunday, the Legionnaires followed up with a 4-2 win over the Maulers, led by 27 saves from Jacob Morris.
The local trio of Egland, Rondeau, and Sam Kirwan combined for 11 points. Egland finished with two goals and two assists, Rondeau added a goal and three assists, while Sam Kirwan added a goal and two assists. Kayd Ruedig added one assist.
Swift Current’s Brady Simpson and Boston Melnyk replied for the Maulers. Bouvier took the loss with 24 saves.
The Legionnaires improved to 15-5-2, while Yorkton fell to 4-15-1.
The Legionnaires will visit the Regina Pat Canadians on Dec. 12.
