Southwest competitors excel at Beechy Western Days

Southwest cowboys and cowgirls cashed in at Beechy Western Days on Sept. 22-24. 

Maple Creek’s Blake Link topped Bareback in Beechy. He won Go-Round 1 with 79 points on Contender for $257. Link had the only qualified ride in the Final with 84 points to claim $234.

Maple Creek’s Kahl Wasilow also topped Bull Riding with two eight-second rides. He won Go-Round 1 with 86 points on Farva for $432. Wasilow added a second-place ride of 77 points in the Final. Lancer’s Cole Hartman was second in Go-Round 1 with 82 points on Bunged Up. Kincaid’s Jud Colliness finished fourth with 78 points on Rupert.

Wasilow also won Novice Bull Riding with 79 points for $324. Maple Creek’s Brock Walkow was third with a 77-point ride.

Mankota’s Kiera Williamson tied for top spot in Junior Girls Barrel Racing in 13.06 seconds for $369. Beechy’s Allee Kapeller was fourth at home in 13.24 seconds.

Waldeck’s Tuftin McLeod placed second in Tie Down Roping. Mankota’s Shawn Williamson was third. Williamson won Go-Round 1 in 8.8 seconds. Tyce McLeod was third in Go-Round 1 in 9.7 seconds. Tuftin McLeod tied for second in the Final in 9.6 seconds.

Walkow also placed second in Junior Steer Riding with a 72-point ride to claim $259.

Maple Creek’s Kate Beierbach placed third in Ladies Barrel Racing, while Waldeck’s Mallory McLeod was fifth. Beierbach was sixth in Go-Round 1 in 13.18 seconds and third in the Final in 13.02 seconds. McLeod was fifth in Go-Round 1 in 13.11 seconds. Mankota’s April Williamson finished fourth in the Final in 13.27 seconds.

Waldeck’s Scott McLeod and Vincent Traynor (Delisle) were third in Team Roping, while Hazenmore’s Ben Switzer and Colter Dunn (Ogema) placed sixth. Switzer and Dunn placed fourth in Go-Round 1 in 5.4 seconds. Consul’s Braden Brost and Shane MacLennan (Claresholm, AB) were fifth in 5.6 seconds. Waldeck’s Tyce McLeod and Swift Current’s Chad Feil placed sixth in 5.7 seconds. Scott McLeod and Traynor placed third in the Final in 7.9 seconds.

Maple Creek’s Cody Lane placed fourth in Saddle Bronc Go-Round 1 with 72 points on Money Bags for $935. Lane was third in the Final with a 73-point ride for $93. Consul’s Zane Tully tied for fourth in the Final with 71 points for $23.

The CCA Finals will be Oct. 19-22 in Saskatoon.
