Team Casey had an outstanding second day with two wins at the 2017 Tim Hortons Brier on Sunday in St. John’s, Nfld.
Cabri’s Shaun Meachem is making his Brier debut, playing second on the rink skipped by Adam Casey and playing out of the Highland Curling Club.
Team Casey had lost their opening game 6-5 to Manitoba’s Mike McEwen to open the Brier. Saskatchewan led 2-1 after three ends, but McEwen notched two-point ends in the fourth and sixth and then stole one in the seventh end to go ahead 6-3. Casey replied with a single in the ninth and stole one on the 10th as the comeback bid fell just short.
Saskatchewan got into the win column Sunday morning with an 11-5 win over Alberta’s Brendan Bottcher. They opened the game with a three-point end and then stole a single for a commanding 4-0 lead. Saskatchewan put the game away with a three-point ninth end.
Saskatchewan faced the Northwest Territories, skipped by Jamie Koe, on Sunday afternoon and used three-points ends in the first and eighth ends to earn an 8-3 win to improve to 2-1.
Saskatchewan will face Quebec and Newfoundland & Labrador on Monday.
