Broncos miss playoffs after road loss

The Swift Current Broncos lost their final game of the regular season for a second straight season to miss the Western Hockey League playoffs once again.

The Broncos led 2-0 before allowing four straight goals to lose 4-3 to the host Medicine Hat Tigers. The loss left the Broncos in ninth place in the Eastern Conference, three points back of the Tigers for the final playoff spot.

The Broncos scored twice in the opening period to take the lead. Connor Hvidston opened the scoring 3:16 into regulation as he scored from in tight for his 21st goal of the season. Josh Davies doubled the lead at the 8:14 mark when he tipped home a power play goal to reach the 20-goal plateau.

The Tigers took the lead in the second period with goals from Tyler MacKenzie, Oasiz Wiesblatt, and Dallon Melin. The Broncos spent much of the period shorthanded and paid the price as the Tigers scored twice on the power play.

The Tigers doubled the lead 6:00 into the third period with a Cayden Lindstrom goal. The Broncos responded with a power play goal from Josh Filmon to pull within one goal, his 47th goal of the season, but they were unable to pull even.  

Reid Dyck took the loss with 26 saves to finish 15-23-1-1 on the season. Beckett Langkow finished 25-20-7-1 with 21 saves for the Tigers.

The Broncos finished the season with a 31-33-1-3. Medicine Hat finished 30-29-8-1.
