Broncos double up Wheat Kings

The Swift Current Broncos got 37 saves from Gage Alexander and a three-point outing from Connor Hvidston to double up the Brandon Wheat Kings 4-2 on Tuesday.

The Wheat Kings opened the scoring in the first period with a Brett Hyland power play goal as they  held a 13-4 advantage on the shot clock in the period.

The Broncos responded in the second period with three goals, beginning with a shorthanded breakaway goal from Josh Davies. Connor Hvidston added his sixth goal 1:03 later and Mathew Ward tallied on the power play for a 3-1 lead.

Each team scored in the third period, beginning with a Luke Mistelbacher goal to give the Broncos a 4-1 lead. Nolan Ritchie replied for the Wheat Kings with a power play goal less than a minute later.

Alexander improved to 6-2-0-0 with his 37-save effort.

Carson Bjarnson fell to 7–6-2-0 with 21 saves.

The Broncos moved back to .500 with a 9-9-0-0 season record, while Brandon fell to 7-11-2-0. The Broncos will visit the Moose Jaw Warriors on Friday.
