Records fall at SWAC Sectional Meets

A total of 24 records fell during a pair of SWAC Sectional Track and Field Meets in Swift Current last week.

The Blue Sectional Meet has a much longer history and saw only two new records established. Colter Folk, representing All Saints Catholic School, set a new record in the Bantam Boys 1,500 Metres in 5:01.50.

The Swift Current Comp. Ardens’ Olami Akinfiresoye added a new record in the Junior Girls 100 Metre Dash in 12.83 seconds. 

The White Sectional, held on May 18, saw 22 new records established.

Leader’s Addison Banks set a new record in the Junior Girls 100 Metre Dash in 14.31 seconds.

Fox Valley’s Kesler Hellman added a new standard in the Junior Boys 400 Metre Dash in 1:07.91.

Maple Creek’s Sierra Frey set a new record in the Intermediate Girls 800 Metres in 3:05.84, well ahead of the former mark of 3:30.18. 

Eastend’s Mya Girard also set a record in the 800 Metres in 3:07.78 to shatter the previous mark of 3:23.91 in Senior Girls.

Greyson Arendt set a new record for the Shaunavon Shadows when he finished the Intermediate Boys 3,000 Metres in 11:41.04.

Shaunavon’s Madden Wallis soared to new record in Senior Boys High Jump when he cleared the bar at 1.79 metres.

Grace Chou of Fox Valley also set a Junior Girls Long Jump record at 4.34 metres.

Shaunavon’s Kolton Wills established a Senior Boys Long Jump record at 5.77 metres.

Frontier’s Myra Halderman etched her name into the history books with a 28.39–metre record in Senior Girls Discus Throw. She added a second record in Shot Put at 9.90 metres to add nearly 1.5 metres to the previous mark.

Clay Lightfoot continued the Frontier Raiders’ excellence in Discus with a new Senior Boys record at 36.04 metres.

Eastend’s Jace Egland added an Intermediate Boys record in Javelin at 45.00 metres.

Cabri’s Charlie Pawluk set a new Senior Boys Shot Put record at 12.12 metres.

Consul’s Gavin Johnson ran his way to a new Bantam Boys 400 Metre Dash record in 1:06.78.

Frontier’s Victoria Pegg added a Bantam Girls 400 Metre Dash record in 1:18.01.

Three runners eclipsed the previous record in the Bantam Girls 800 Metres, but it is Cabri’s Sienna Watson who now holds the new mark in 3:01.75.

Maple Creek’s Natowa Whitefish endured the Bantam Boys 1,500 Metres to set a new record of 5:24.97. He shattered the previous mark of 12:45.38 in the 3,000 Metres in 11:38.00 for a second record.

Fox Valley’s Amara Weiss cleared the bar at 1.37 metres to edge to previous record in the Bantam Girls High Jump.

The final record was set by Cabri’s Connor Lacelle in Bantam Boys Discus with a top throw of 27.99 metres.

The top qualifiers from both meets will be in Swift Current for the District Meet on May 25.
