Broncos fight back in overtime loss

Josh Davies STEVEN MAH/SOUTHWEST BOOSTER

The Swift Current Broncos erased a two-goal deficit before losing 3-2 in overtime to the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings on Tuesday. Ridly Greig scored only 45 seconds into overtime to lift the Wheat Kings to the win.

The game was scoreless for over 31 minutes until Greig finished off a pretty passing play into an empty net for his 23rd goal of the season. The Wheat Kings doubled the lead less than a minute later when Quinn Mantei notched his first of the season.

The Broncos replied minutes later with goals 3:01 apart. Carter Stebbings fired home his fifth goal of the season on the rush and Josh Davies scored his 13th goal while on the power play when a Brandon player passed the puck right onto his stick and he tapped it into a partially empty net.

Isaac Poulter fell to 14-15-4-1 with 22 saves. Ethan Kruger improved to 16-8-2-2 with 18 saves for the Wheat Kings.

The Broncos remain eighth in the Eastern Conference with a 17-24-5-1 record. Brandon sits sixth with a 22-15-3-2 record.

The Broncos are back at home on Friday against the Medicine Hat Tigers to continue a three-game home stand.
