Goddard and Joseph named finalists for Saskatchewan Sport Awards

A pair of Swift Current athletes have been named finalists for 2021 Saskatchewan Sports Awards.

Abby Goddard is one of three finalists for Youth Female Athlete of the Year for her achievements in equestrian. She is up against Regina’s Teah Chavez (tennis) and Saskatoon’s Isabella Brown (weightlifting).

Goddard was a top-10 finisher at the American Quarter Horse Canadian Nationals, Ford W

Goddard was a youth 14 to 18 Champion in multiple devisions and All Round Champion at the American Quarter Horse Canadian Nationals.

She was the All Round Champion at the Gold Buckle Futurity series. Goddard was also a top-10 finalist at Ford Youth Worlds in Oklahoma.

Scott Joseph is one of three finalists for Male Athlete of the Year. He is up against Regina’s Rylan Sokul (football) and Pike Lake’s Rylan Wiens (diving).

Joseph was a silver medalist at the Canadian Olympic trials in long jump and also earned gold at an international event in Montreal with a jump that was just five centimetres away from a Saskatchewan record.

The 2021 Saskatchewan Sport Awards will be celebrated through a virtual celebration gala on Thursday, Jan. 27 at 7 p.m. on YouTube Premiere. The gala will honour the seven Recognition Awards recipients, as well as announce the recipients of the six Excellence Awards and celebrate those named as finalists.
