Poulter leads Broncos past Wheat Kings

Isaac Poulter made 47 saves to lead the Swift Current Broncos to a 3-0 win over the visiting Brandon Wheat Kings on Wednesday.

The overage goaltender earned his third shutout of the season as he made 17 saves in the second period and 20 in the third period after the Broncos scored three goals in the opening period.

The Broncos took control of the game early, beginning with Mathew Ward’s redirection goal on the first shot of the game. Carter Stebbings doubled the lead midway through the period when he tipped home a Daylan Weigel shot. Josh Filmon quickly added a power play goal when he grabbed a puck in the slot and fired it home for his ninth goal of the season.

Carson Bjarnason fell to 3–5-0-0 with 11 saves for the Wheat Kings, who fell to 9-12-0-1.

The Broncos improved to 8-12-2-1 on the season and have now won six of their last eight games at home.

The Broncos will visit the Regina Pats on Saturday in their only game of the weekend.

Bronco Bits: The Broncos announced before the game that they had released overage defenseman Rylan Thiessen, who had six assists in 22 games with the Broncos this season. The Broncos now have only Cole Nagy and Isaac Poulter as overagers.
