Wildcats sweep Sharks to open SFU18AAAHL regular season

The Swift Current Innovation Credit Union Wildcats only allowed one goal in a weekend sweep of the host Battlefords Sharks to open the Saskatchewan Female U18 AAA Hockey League regular season.

Saturday, the Wildcats opened the regular season with a shutout win over the host Sharks. Aurora Van Wormer made 29 saves to record the shutout.

Jerzey Watteyne led the Wildcats with a goal and an assist as they fired 43 shots on goal. Laiken Swan also scored, while Samantha Thompson picked up an assist.

Sunday, the Wildcats won the special teams battle in a 5-1 win with two power play goals and another while shorthanded. Watteyne followed up with a two-goal effort, one while shorthanded, while Kiana McNinch had a goal and an assist against her former team. Thompson and Cydny Price also scored.

Jessica Bouffard, Shelby Rublee, Olivia Kirwan, Amiyah Jones, Swan, and Kylee Hansen all added assists. Karlee Lehner made 24 saves to earn the win.

Mykayla Pylypow scored for the Sharks, while Taylor Enns made 40 saves in a losing cause.

The Wildcats will host their home opener on October 20 at 8 p.m. against the Regina Rebels (2-0).
