An incumbent city councillor announced his re-election bid today in Swift Current: Ryan Switzer, who was first elected to Swift Current’s council in November of 2020, has decided to run again.

“The last four years have been an amazing learning experience,” said Switzer. “From navigating the challenges of the COVID-19 Pandemic, to my work on several local and regional boards and committees, I feel these experiences representing residents as a City Councillor have equipped me with the skills necessary to provide continued enhanced leadership for our great city.”

The 47-year-old empty-nester is the Council-appointed representative on the Swift Current Library Board, the Chinook Regional Library Board, the Drug Strategy Action Committee, the Southwest Facility Foundation, the Swift Current Housing Authority and serves as Chair of the local Mural Advisory Committee.

“I have been very fortunate to be a part of some fantastic teams that are committed to moving our city and region forwards. It was an honour to be elected to serve four years ago and I hope Swift Current entrusts me to continue to help grow our community,” commented Switzer, while acknowledging there are still challenges ahead, as is the case with any municipality.

“We have some aging City-owned buildings that have served us well for decades but are nearing the end of their life cycles; managing infrastructure is vital to the long-term health of Swift Current,” noted Switzer.

“We have incredible buy-in from community partners to collaborate on large-scale projects to improve the wellbeing of all community members. Building an active, healthy community is important, and it’s something I feel strongly about, believing that we should aim to advance our community, so it is in better shape for the future.”

–What will Switzer do if re-elected?

“Work hard. Keep grinding. I have one mouth and two ears, and I respect that ratio. Swift Current has new building incentives for homes and businesses, a vibrant economy, and has many amenities for a community our size. It’s important to continue to make Swift Current a place for people of all ages to become the best version of themselves.”
