Swift Current’s Brandin Cote and Mac Gross won the Canada West men’s hockey championship over the weekend with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies.

The Huskies closed out the best-of-three series against the Mount Royal Cougars with a 3-0 win on Sunday, led by 30 saves from Roddy Ross. The Huskies had won game one 6-3 on Friday before losing 2-1 on Saturday.

The Huskies were coached by former Swift Current hockey product Brandin Cote, who was named the 2025 Canada West Coach of the Year. He was an assistant coach with the Swift Current Broncos before joining the Huskies.

Former Swift Current Broncos captain Ethan Regnier scored the Huskies second goal, a third period marker in front of 3,013 fans in Saskatoon. Regnier was joined on the Huskies by former Broncos Carter Stebbings, Cohner Saleski, and Raphael Pelletier.

Stebbings has 23 points in 37 games with the Huskies this season, his third in Saskatoon.

Pelletier has 18 points in 29 games in his second season with the Huskies.

Regnier has 18 points in 31 games in his first season with the Huskies after playing two seasons for Mount Royal.

Gross has six points and a +11 rating in 21 games on the Huskies blue line during his second season.

Saleski has two points in four games for the Huskies in his second season of university hockey.

The Huskies (36-6) will compete at the 2025 University Cup Championship in Ottawa on March 20-23 at TD Place.
