Broncos end Alberta road trip with shootout loss

The Swift Current Broncos wrapped up a three-game Alberta road trip with a 3-2 shootout loss to the Edmonton Oil Kings on Sunday.

Gracyn Sawchyn and Adam Jecho scored in the shootout for the Oil Kings, while only Clarke Caswell was able to score for the Broncos on four attempts.

Brady Birnie got the Broncos on the board with the only goal of the first period as he deflected his 25th goal of the season home.

The Oil Kings tied the game in the second period with a Jack Toogood goal, but Luke Mistelbacher replied with his 40th goal of the season for a 2-1 lead after two periods.

Kayden Stroeder scored a power play goal in the third period to send the game to overtime.

Reid Dyck took the shootout loss with 43 saves to fall to 20-19-1-1. Alex Worthington made 20 saves to improve to 21-17-0-1.

The Broncos remain eighth in the Eastern Conference with a 33-26-1-2 record. Edmonton improved to 35-24-2-2 to move into fifth in the Eastern Conference.

The Broncos will host the Red Deer Rebels on Wednesday with only six games remaining in the regular season.
