Broncos edge Rebels to move towards playoff spot

The Swift Current Broncos took a massive step towards clinching a playoff spot with a 3-2 win over the host Red Deer Rebels on Saturday.

Playing their third road game in four days, the Broncos clinched a win over the Rebels with a third-period power play goal from Luke Mistelbacher, his 39th goal of the season, to break a 2-2 deadlock.

Brady Birnie and Trae Wilke also scored for the Broncos. Nishaan Parmar and Beckett Hamilton replied for the Rebels.

Reid Dyck earned the win with 35 saves on 37 shots for his 20th win of the season. Peyton Shore took the loss with 26 saves on 29 shots.

The Broncos improved to 33-26-1-1 to remain eighth in the Eastern Conference. The Rebels fell to 24-30-5-2 to sit ninth, 13 points back of the final playoff spot.

The Broncos will continue up Highway #2 for their third road game in as many days on Sunday when they visit the Edmonton Oil Kings. The Broncos trail the Oil Kings (34-24-2-2) by four points for seventh in the Eastern Conference with one game in hand.
