SWAC curling play downs underway

SWAC CURLING

Junior Sectional curling was held this past weekend.  Leader (commissioner Lana Marshall) was one host site with Consul, Fox Valley, Cabri, Maple Creek, Hazlet and Leader Schools in attendance. Val Marie (commissioner Amy Andree) hosted the second sectional tournament with  teams from Val Marie, Ecole Centennial, Frontier, Ponteix, Gull Lake, Herbert and Val Marie schools participating. 

Junior districts are on February 28 – March 1 commissioned by Cabri (hosted at Abbey Rink). The top two teams (A side champion and B side champion) from the East and West sectionals will advance to the SWAC championship (four team playoff).

JUNIOR EAST results:

Girls 

A qualifier: Herbert – Jessa Giraudier, Zoe Monette, Lyrae Giraudier, Kaitlyn Kunze, coach Patti Giraudier.

The Senior District curling championship was held February 7-8 in Swift Current (commissioner Ron Bailey). Schools participating were Herbert, Gull Lake, Consul, Hazlet, Frontier, Ponteix and Swift Current. The top two teams (A side qualifier and B side qualifier) advanced to  SHSAA senior regionals on February 28 – March 1 in Davidson or Outlook.  The SHSAA provincial competitions take place March 7-8.

Senior Girls 

A qualifier: SCCHS – Lola Ruehs, Scotlyn Rogers, Abby Kroeker, Amalia Letkeman, Addison Heinrichs, coach Ron Bailey/Jeff Chambers.

B qualifier: Gull Lake – Brooklyn Leppa, Emerson Sommer, Bailey Winquist, Lexi Toney, coach Jolene Winquist.

Senior Boys

A qualifier: SCCHS – Perrin Lemire, Jacob Parkinson, Carter Cobler, Tiergan Johnson, coach Jeff Chambers/Ron Bailey.

B qualifier: Gull Lake – Tyler Lamarre, Zach Dysart, Lucas McMillan, Cohen Haithwaite, Trusten Kirwan, coach Amy Dysart.

Senior Mixed

A qualifier: SCCHS – Shane Cornelson, Aryn Thibault, Troy Oakman, Emily Phan, coach Ron Bailey/Jeff Chambers.

B qualifier: Gull Lake – Christian Kirk, Jessintha Goohsen, Ashley Doroteo, Mataly Dietrich, coach Amy Dysart.

Senior Doubles

“A” qualifier (Hazlet) Tessa Todd, Braden Baumann, Clare Meachem, coach Tarryl Todd.

SWAC 3 vs 3 BASKETBALL

Once again, weather derailed the 3 on 3 games once again.  After delaying the start up date for games into January, and then having three competition nights cancelled due to weather, the coaches have decided to pull the plug on 3 on 3 this year.  We will offer the program next year. 

SWAC BASKETBALL LEAGUES

SENIOR LEAGUE: On Tuesday, February 4 the Herbert boys traveled to Maple Creek. The hometown Maple Creek boys beat Herbert 87-46. Maple Creek top scorers – Aydan Buss 19, Darell Cuyugan 12, Alex Cruz 11. Herbert top scorers – Blake Haughtan 14, Ty Dueck 11, Lloyd Packet 8.    

Gull Lake boys won a nail biter over Vanguard (64-62). Gull Lake Top Scorers – Tavaris Nelson 13 points, Tyden Johnson 13 Points. Vanguard Top Scorers – Jake Klassen 25 points, David Thiessen  23 points.    The SCCHS girls game vs Maple Creek senior girls was cancelled.

The last league games are scheduled for Tuesday, February 11. Shaunavon boys will travel to Herbet, Gull Lake will host Maple Creek and Maple Creek girls will play in Swift Current.  This last set of games will determine the league playoffs.

Senior Standings:

Boys: Shaunavon (3-0), Herbert (2-1).  Maple Creek (2-1),  Gull Lake (1-2), Vanguard (0-4)

Girls: Maple Creek (3-0), Shaunavon (2-0), SCCHS (0-3)

JUNIOR LEAGUE: On Thursday, February 6,  Maple Creek boys won over Shaunavon 50- 39.  Top scorers for Maple Creek~~Brix Parasia 19 pts, Dayton Cronkhite 10 pts. Top scorers for Shaunavon – Wook Seong  14 pts, Declin Stevenson 8 pts. That same night, Shaunavon girls defeated Maple Creek 55-15. Shaunavon top scorers – Loreal Currence 12 pts, Cadence Christensen 13 pts, Blakely Wallis 10 pts. Maple Creek top scorers were Elaina Uribe and Harper Scott with 4 pts each.

Thursday, February 13, Shaunavon hosts Maple Creek girls and boys in the final league game. This is the last game of the league. Championship medals/plaques will be awarded after each game.

WRESTLING 

The SCCHS Comp. Colt and Arden wrestlers were in Moose Jaw for a competition this weekend. Once again, the wrestlers came home with great results in various weight categories.

1st – Eric Shea, Seth Hannouch, Dakota Hurl.

2nd – Rachel Cornelson, Ryely Bennett.

3rd – Clinton Asuzu, Sam Dickie Monfort, Rece Schindel, Talon Tumback, Cade Banman, Callie Ebner.

4th – Carter Stad and Jarret Fehr.
