Broncos conclude road trip on winning note

The Swift Current Broncos concluded their five-game B.C. Division road trip with a 6-3 win over the host Kelowna Rockets on Saturday.

The Broncos allowed the opening goal for a sixth straight game as Jackson Gillespie scored for the Rockets 4:24 into regulation. The Broncos tied the game minutes later with a Grayson Burzynski goal. Gillespie scored again for the Rockets, but Broncos defenseman Marek Rocak scored with four seconds remaining in the period to tie the game against his former team.

The Broncos took the lead in the second period with a Rylan Gould goal, his 21st of the season.

Gould doubled the lead in the third period with the Broncos only power play of the road trip. Former Bronco Dawson Gerwing scored to make it a one-goal game, but Trae Wilke and Luke Mistelbacher both scored empty net goals to seal the win over the final 1:31 of regulation as the Broncos finished 3-2 on the road trip.

Joey Rocha made 33 saves on 36 shots to improve to 9-3-0-1 for the Broncos. Jake Pilon took the loss with 35 saves for the Rockets.

The Broncos improved to 25-20-1-1 to remain eighth in the Eastern Conference. Kelowna fell to 16-25-4-1, last in the Western Conference.

The Broncos will return to action on Friday when they visit the Medicine Hat Tigers. They will host the Wenatchee Wild the following evening.
