The Swift Current Broncos opened their five-game B.C. Division road trip with a shootout win over the Victoria Royals on Saturday.
The Broncos erased three separate deficits, including a two-goal margin in the third period, to clinch a 5-4 win over the B.C. Division leading Royals.
Clarke Caswell and Trae Wilke both scored in the shootout, while Reid Dyck stopped three of four Royals.
The Broncos had trailed by two goals entering the final frame until Carlin Dezainde scored early with his 20th goal. Rylan Gould scored his second goal of the game with 59 seconds remaining to force overtime. Wilke had scored in the first period for the Broncos as well.
Reggie Newman, Brandon Lisowsky, Teydon Trembecky, and Brayden Boehm replied for the Royals.
Dyck earned the win with 35 saves on 39 shots. Jayden Kraus took the loss with 34 saves.
The Broncos have now won five of their seven games decided in overtime.
The Broncos remain eighth in the Eastern Conference with a third straight win, but moved within three points of the East Division lead with a 23—18-1-1 record. They will visit the Vancouver Giants on Sunday.
