The Swift Current Broncos were involved in a three-trade that resulted in new additions on the blue line and up front on Thursday.
The biggest piece in the deal involving the Broncos, the Red Deer Rebels, and the Moose Jaw Warriors, is the addition of overage defenseman Hunter Mayo from the Rebels. The 6’1’’ blue liner has 11 goals and 11 assists in 33 games this season. The Saskatoon product has compiled 116 points in 224 regular season games. He also has 13 points in 31 career playoff outings.
Also joining the Broncos from the Rebels is forward Trae Wilke. The Saskatoon product has eight goals and 11 assists in 38 games this season.
Overage defenseman Eric Johnston was sent to Moose Jaw Warriors after 37 games with the Broncos. Headed to Red Deer is sophomore forward Ty Coupland, who has nine goals and 12 assists in 35 games for the Broncos. The Broncos also sent a fourth round pick in 2025 to the Rebels.
The Rebels also received defenseman Keaton Dowhaniuk, while fourth and seventh round picks went from the Rebels to the Warriors.
The Broncos are currently eighth in the Eastern Conference, but only seven points back of the Saskatoon Blades for top spot in the East Division. The Broncos will return to action on Friday when they host the Lethbridge Hurricanes.
